The top 4 DIY hair masks you need to know

Just like our skin, our hair needs constant love and attention which can sometimes work out to be very pricy. This week we’re sharing some of our favorite DIY hair masks that can be whipped up in the comfort of your home and which will help to alleviate some of the common hair concerns that comes along with winter.

Coconut and honey

First up is the Coconut Oil and honey mask. This is great as honey is a wonderful ingredient to help retain moisture in your hair and prevent it from escaping. This is a really handy mask to do if your hair is dry and craves extra moisture and hydration. Honey is also an emollient, which helps smooth and soften your hair. Combined with coconut oil and you’re left with a brilliant mask that leaves you with soft, shiny and beautifully silky hair.  You can double or even triple the ingredients depending on the thickness and length of your hair.

What you need:
  • 1 Tbsp Coconut oil
  • 1 Tbsp honey

Add the ingredients to a bowl and heat gently until combined. Apply down the lengths of your hair and cover with a warm towel. After 15- 20 minutes, shampoo and condition hair as normal. We recommend applying shampoo directly to your hair before washing as this will help absorb and break down the oils which will make your hair easier to wash.

Matcha hair mask

Because Matcha has more antioxidants that normal tea, it makes it the perfect ingredient to help with hair stimulation. Plus, the caffeine and antioxidants in Matcha helps to encourage blood flow and circulation to hair follicles while reducing inflammation and easing dandruff.

What you need:
  • 1 Tbsp Matcha powder
  • 1 Egg
  •  1 Tbp coconut oil

Simply mix all together and massage into scalp and hair for a few minutes. Cover your head with a warm towel for 20 -30 mins and rinse off.

Salt mask

If you struggle with an itchy and dry scalp, then this simple 3 ingredient mask is just for you. Combined, the salt and oil helps to stimulate hair growth and remove dandruff and dry flakes without drying out your scalp. You can also swop the salt out for brown sugar if you want a more gentle scrub. The addition of Extra Virgin Olive Oil can be used as a natural conditioner to treat dry hair while preventing breakage, split ends and flyaways. The lemon juice helps to dissolve away and residue on your hair before washing.

Avocado hair mask

Restore shine to dry and dull hair with this super easy avocado hair mask. While it might seem odd to add eggs, they contain Vitamins A, D, and E as well as proteins and fatty acids, which help retain the luster and shine in your hair. As our hair is mostly made out of protein, this mask will leave your hair looking healthy and feeling restored.

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Avocado
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1 Tbsp coconut oil

Gently heat the honey and coconut oil till combined. Add in the avocado and stir until smooth and until the mixture has cooled down. Whisk in the eggs and apply mask from your roots to tips. Cover with a towel and allow it to sit for about 30 minutes before rinsing and shampooing well.
